A longboard is very different from a normal skateboard due to its unique requirements in terms of deck, trucks, wheels and bearings. The bearings assist in determining the speed at which the wheels will be rolling. In other words they determine the momentum of the skateboard.
Longboard bearings are metallic or ceramic rings which enclose tiny balls constituting of either ceramic or extra metals. These rings are setup within the wheels, and they are responsible for revolving the axles of the truck. It is sensible to check if these constituents are actually in sync with each other and whether they fit the chosen skateboard or not.
There are two types of bearings available which are either made of steel or ceramic. Steel bearings usually consist of steel ring and steel balls whereas ceramic bearings are made of ceramic balls. Regular skateboarders do not use steel bearings as often as ceramic ones. Ceramic longboard skateboard bearings have been specifically designed so that they can match with the requirements of an expert skateboarder. The ceramic bearings constitute of ceramic zirconium oxide as well as ceramic cerbec silicon nitride. Even though they are expensive than steel bearings, these ceramic bearings are corrosion defiant and less heavy. Moreover, they also have a reduced level of friction on account of their thermal resistance and last longer than steel bearings. This is the reason why ceramic longboard skateboard bearings are excellent for high pace downhill racing.
