Almost all the countries with mountains or mountainous topography have adequate supplies for downhill skiing. Slalom skiing refers to downhill, or alpine skiing where the skier has to meet countless turns when he is going down the mountains. Moreover this requires immense balance in addition to time. Slalom racing on longboard skateboards is favored by skiers, and by people who have interest in watching this sport.

Slalom racing was initiated in the middle of the 1800`s.by a Norwegian, Sondre Norheim. He fashioned it by wrapping soaked birch roots in the section of his boots. His technique was duplicated and skiers innovated on the application for bindings. The improved bindings were attached to the ski at the region of the toes and heels. This allowed the skiers to ski speedily and maneuver promptly as compared with the previous bindings.

During the late 1800`s, there was a noticeable improvement when two Austrians, Mathias Zdarsky and Hannes Schneider formulated innovative ideas for spinning and obstructing systems. This is now the foundation for the majority of current alpine skiing. Slalom skiing as a sport started becoming popular after these practices started gaining popularity.

The initial slalom competition was organized in Murren, Switzerland in the year 1922. The opening world championships were held in Murren, in the year 1931. The initial mutual championship, which merged both downhill and slalom racing, was a major component of the 1932 world championships held in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. Slalom was partially known as the Men’s Combined Alpine skiing and downhill racing event. The first gold medals were acquired by Germans named Franz Pfnur for the men’s section, as well as Christl Cranz for the women’s category. In the latter part of the year 1930, an American called Dick Durrance recommended a race with the gates positioned quite far at a distance; this is now known as colossal slalom.

After that, slalom was held at an elevated position in St. Moritz, Switzerland in the year 1948. This was when slalom was prepared as a disconnected medal occurrence. In 1952, the giant slalom was included in the form of an Olympic experience. The Super G, which was essentially a slalom event where the gates were spaced out, was an additional feature in the year 1988.

This is the history of slalom racing and this is essentially what has contributed to the popularity of the sport using longboard skateboards.
