The things that are required to apply grip tape to your longboard include: Skateboard Deck, Skateboard Grip tape, File, with a Razor Blade or Box Cutter.
These steps for the application of tape are:
- Remove all traces of visible paper on the back of the grip tape. This will expose the sticky surface.
- In order to protect your hands from the tape, use a piece of the backing paper to hold the tape surface.
- Slice the grip tape slightly greater than the board by determining its midpoint. Allow the grip tape to hang down a little in the central point. This would ensure that the center would stick first. As soon as the midpoint has been stuck, ensure that you carefully stick on the edges and this should be done from the center outwards. Remember that the grip tape is quite sticky, thus handle it with great care.
- Use a metal file or else a metal beam of a screwdriver, so that you can scratch in the region of the boundaries of the longboard skateboard deck. Ensure that you rub firmly till the time all the grains are vanished. This would ensure that there is a white outline which is visible within the grip tape which would help in sketching the limits of the board.
- To remove excess grip tape, grasp a razor blade on a 45-degree angle and cut from the base up. Ensure that you start the process at the nose or tail. After that follow the white outline and run the blade in along the edge of the skateboard longboard deck removing extra grip tape.
- In order to level the uneven edges, rush a metal file approximately within the edges of the longboard.
- Lastly, make use of a screwdriver in order to push holes all the way through the grip tape wherever the trucks would be accumulated.
